18 Apr Energy of Conflict vs Energy of Connectedness

#Aging Vibrantly

Have you ever walked into your home or office and sensed a heaviness or a troublesome atmosphere even though no one has said anything out of the ordinary or acted any differently? You may have had the experience of walking into the living room of your home, with your upset spouse three rooms away, and sensed the impending doom in the air as powerfully as if it were written in neon lights. You sense conflict looming ahead and anxiety begins creeping in – you might open the window to create more space. What is your typical reaction to this sudden drop in the relationship barometer? Is it the guilt-ridden thought “Uh oh, what did I do now?” or maybe the “Get them before they get me” approach” Yeah, well I’m angry too because……”?  This is conflict and our bodies absorb this sensation, and it drives a wedge in the connectedness that we need to feel to live our lives to the fullest.

We are energy beings as well as physical bodies. We carry our energy fields with us as a snail carries its shell. Our energy is always with us. However unlike the snail, our emotional energy changes as we change. The reverse is also true in that our physiological state is affected by the energy around us.  Are there some people that you just love being around, you can’t wait to spend time with them, and when you are around them, your life seems brighter, happier and you seem to laugh a lot. And are there others that when you come close to them, you can feel the need to put on your emotional raincoat. They just seem to drag all the energy out of the room and leave you with barely enough air to breathe?

The reverse is also true. You can have this same effect on others. When you are upset, angry or scared, your energy balloon contracts. Emotionally you are running back inside the house, locking the door, slamming the windows, fearful because you might be under siege any moment. But when you are full of joy, confidence or compassion, that balloon of energy around you grows. All your windows and doors are open to give and to receive. You look and feel different, not just to yourself, but also to those around you.

All of our relationships expand and contract based on the energy that is swirling around us and through us at all times. It is time to learn to move through our days with power and grace. It’s about choosing where and with whom we share our energies, our peace of mind and our love. Fill your world with joyful energy. And remember, life is too short not to eat dessert first.  Happy Spring
